Baidoa, (insidesomalia.org) - A Somali intelligence officer was shot and killed by three gunmen on Sunday night, as killings targeting government officials continued in the country.
Ibrahim Jajumo was the ranking national security agent in Qansah Dheere district of Bay region, officials said.
He was shot several times in the stomach in the southwestern town of Baidoa, 250km northwest of the capital Mogadishu.
Baidoa is the seat of Somalia's transitional federal parliament and home to thousands of Somali and Ethiopian troops.
Dr.Timir at the Baidoa hospital confirmed to local reporters that Jajumo died at the hospital after loosing too much blood, with the doctor saying the hospital lacked enough medicine.
Shine Moallim Nurow, deputy governor of Bay region, said Baidoa police are in pursuit of the killers.
The late intelligence agent "did not have guards with him," according to Deputy Governor Nurow.
Baidoa police officers were seen entering homes and interviewing potential witnesses Monday morning, but no suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder so far.
Several Somali government officials, including at least seven intelligence officials, have been gunned down in different parts of the country since last year when Ethiopian troops installed the transitional government in Mogadishu.
